PEARL'S BEEF STEW
2 pounds cubed beef
4 large potatoes, peeled and cubed
2 stalks celery, chopped
1 tablespoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon sweet basil
1/3 cup tapioca
1 pint tomato juice
1 pound carrots, sliced
1 onion, diced
1 tablespoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
Layer meat, onion, celery and carrots in large baking or roasting pan. Mix tomato juice, sugar, salt, basil and pepper. Mix tapioca with 1 pint water. Add to tomato juice and pour over layered vegetables and meat. Bake at 325 degrees F. for two hours. Add cubed potatoes and bake one hour longer.

BROCCOLI CHEESE SOUP
3/4 cup onion, chopped
6 cups water
8 ounces small, thin noodles
2 (10-ounce) packages chopped broccoli
6 cups milk
3 tablespoons butter
6 chicken bouillon cubes
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1 pound Velveeta(TM) cheese
In bottom of large pot, saute onion in butter. Add water and bouillon and heat to boiling (stir until dissolved). Add noodles and salt. Cook three minutes. Add broccoli and garlic powder. Cook four minutes. Add milk and cheese. Do not boil. Heat thoroughly, stirring occasionally.

RIB-STICKIN' BEEF & BARLEY SOUP
3 pounds chuck roast
1/4 cup flour
4 tablespoons oil
3/4 cup barley
2 carrots, diced
1 medium onion, diced
1/2 cup parsley
2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon thyme
1/2 teaspoon savory
2 (12-ounce) cans beef broth
Rub the roast with flour and brown in the oil. Put in a crock pot and add the remaining ingredients. Cook on low heat 8-9 hours. Pull meat apart to shred (either in the crock pot or remove, shred and return). Add more beef broth or water if soup is too thick.

CHILI
1 pound ground beef
1 small green pepper, diced (optional)
1 (46-ounce) can tomato juice
3/4 teaspoon-1 tablespoon chili powder, to taste
2 cans kidney beans
1 stalk celery, chopped
1 onion, chopped
2 tablespoons brown sugar
Brown ground beef in skillet. Drain. Combine with all other ingredients. Heat through and simmer as long as desired. Serve with shredded cheddar cheese.

BAKED OATMEAL
2 eggs
1/2 cup oil
2 teaspoons baking powder
3 cups quick oats
1 cup milk
1 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon salt
Mix all ingredients together well and place in casserole dish. Bake at 350 degrees F. for 20-30 minutes.
Variation: can substitute applesauce for oil.

GRANOLA BARS
1/3 cup butter
1/4 cup peanut butter
12 ounces marshmallows
1/4 cup honey
4 1/2 cups crispy rice cereal or cornflakes
2 1/2 cups oatmeal
1/2 cup dried cranberries
1/2 cup chocolate chips
1/4 cup nuts
1 cup coconut
Melt butter, peanut butter and marshmallows. Add honey and stir. Add dry ingredients. Pour into well-greased shallow casserole dish. Let cool and cut into squares.
