If you haven't already made reservations to watch the leaves fall around you at Cricket Hill Cabins, it's probably too late for this season. Fall season bookings are full six months in advance.

MILLERSBURG, Ohio - Few getaways possess so much appeal throughout all seasons as Cricket Hill Cabins. Unlike a beach vacation that has its best and worst times of the year, the cabins nestled in the heart of Amish country transition through all the seasons gracefully.

"It's so beautiful to watch the snow fall in the woods while you sit in the hot tub," said co-owner Martha Kline.

Before the snow begins to fall, the cabins will be extremely busy in October. Anyone who wants to watch the leaves fall in the woods next year should consider making reservations soon.

"October is definitely our busiest time," Kline said. "We're booked solid at least six months ahead of time."

According to Kline, ever since she and her husband took over the cabins five years ago, they have continually looked for ways to improve the area and preserve the privacy of the cabins. Because they live on the property with their family, they can tend to their guests and ensure the quality of their visits.

Beds sit in the lofts over the cabin. Two of the three cabins offer hot tubs on their covered decks. All of them have jacuzzis and outdoor fire rings. One cabin overlooks a ravine while another has a large front yard.

Kline described the cabins as luxury in seclusion.

"These are nicely furnished ... not rustic at all," she said.

Full kitchens, washers, and dryers also make extended stays more comfortable. Kitchens come equipped with a gas grill, refrigerator, pots, pans, dishes, silverware, granola, orange juice, milk, tea, coffee and hot chocolate.

Even though the cabins provide a romantic setting that caters to couples, up to eight people can stay in each cabin comfortably. With Berlin just 3.5 miles away, guests need only drive five to 10 minutes from shopping. Kline said groups of women who come to shop in the area shops often book rooms, splitting the cost and bringing sleeping bags.

"Most people go into town, but some don't because they come in just to relax," Kline said.

Additionally, up to two children under 12 may stay in the cabins at no extra cost. The cabins are furnished with one bed and a pull-out sofa. All of the cabins offer similar amenities, but stand out in their unique decorative motifs of apples, grapes and roses.

Visitors may also fish in the pond nearby and take walks in the woods.

Kline said Cricket Hill Cabins offers winter coupons in addition to year-round weekday specials. Patrons save $30 by booking a room during the week and save $10 per night for a two or three nights' stay and $20 for four nights or more.
