Cricket Hill Cabins -- A quiet spot in the country

Are you looking for some peace and quiet? Somewhere to get away from it all? I think I may have found just the place for you! Just picture yourself on the front porch (see photo) of one of the four log cabins at Cricket Hill Cabins, rocking away all the stress that's built up inside you over the winter. Whether you're by yourself, part of a couple or a family, this is the perfect quiet spot for you. Sounds good, huh?

Located just three miles west of Berlin, in the heart of Amish Country, Cricket Hill Cabins have been in existence for more than a decade, but for the past three years have been owned and operated by Mike and Martha Kline.

"Each of our cozy cabins is very secluded," Martha said, "and that seems to be what people want. Each is totally private. Our guests are looking for a quiet time here where they can relax. Our cabins are in the woods, surrounded by birds, trees and plenty of nature."

There are four cabins from which you can choose at Cricket Hill: The Apple Blossom, The Wild Rose, The Grapevine and The Honey Bear (this one is located approximately two miles from the others; it's the original Cricket Hill Cabin and is under different ownership, but still managed by Mike and Martha).

All four cabins have a Jacuzzi tub for two, a loft with a queen-size bed and a living room with a sleeper-bed sofa, a fireplace, a kitchen with a microwave and either a cook-top stove or a stove with an oven, a refrigerator (three have ice makers), air conditioning and full baths with a shower. Each cabin has a porch (complete with rocking chairs), a gas grill and an outdoor fire ring with firewood at the ready. Three cabins have a washer and dryer, and two have an outdoor hot tub on the deck, available for year-'round relaxation. A pond is available for catch-and-release fishing, also.

Although the cabins are not "bed and breakfasts," a small selection of cereals and snacks is available. You can prepare your own breakfast or visit one of the multitude of local restaurants and enjoy one of those Amish Country breakfasts you've heard about.

"All our cabins sleep up to four, but some of our guests have brought their own air mattresses and sleeping bags and have made room for more," Martha said. "Sometimes we get families that rent out all the cabins and bring in their entire family for a holiday get-together. Some folks come for a day or two; others spend a week. We have some who've been coming back every year for more than 10 years."

Martha went on to say they see lots of honeymooners and couples celebrating anniversaries.

"They're looking for something secluded," she said, "and that's just what we have."

The rates for the cabins are very reasonably priced. The Sunday-through-Thursday rates range from $129-$139 per night, and Fridays and Saturdays range from $159 to $169 (these rates are for up to two adults and two children under 12; $10 extra per person, per night). There are discounts for stays of two-to-three nights and for four or more. Be sure to check the Web site for winter specials, too.

Call now to reserve a cabin so you can rock away your cares and woes and enjoy privacy at its best. Experience the peaceful countryside at its best at Cricket Hill.
