First Visit to Amish Heartland

Published: November 7, 2010 10:06 PM

I, along with my wife and 15 year old Son, spent the 1st week of November, 2010 in Amish Heartland. It was an awesome experience for us. My wife has been fascinated with the Amish way of life for several years, after reading several books about them. We stayed in the Berlin Village Inn and it was just as advertised; very clean, friendly, and affordable. While in Berlin we were fortunate enough to meet John Erb, a local Amish gentleman offering Buggy Rides (for a Donation). We happened upon him as we were coming out of the Boyd & Wurthmann Restaurant, in downtown Berlin, after eating a wonderful Breakfast along with a room full of local folks. It was exactly what we were hoping for; a chance to ride in one of those Amish Buggies and have a casual conversation with a genuine Amish individual. John Erb was the perfect individual for the task; willing to talk with us "Englishers", friendly, and just an all around great person. (Thanks John Erb!) And thanks to this Web Site, our 1st visit to the Ohio Amish Heartland was an awesome, memorable experience for my little family.
