Mt. Hope Weekly Livestock Auction

When: 11:30 a.m.

Where: Mt. Hope Auction Barn; 8076 SR 241, Mt. Hope

Amish and non-Amish bring their animals to market every Wednesday year round. Observers will see very old-fashioned carts and wagons and horses and buggies coming and going from the market. During fair weather flea market vendors sell their wares on the outside. A large building also provides shelter for flea market vendors and shoppers. Flea market opens at 7 a.m., Hay Auction and Produce Auction begin at 10 a.m., Livestock Sale begins at 11:30 a.m. and the Poultry Sale begins at 1 p.m. During the summer, small animals such as ducks, chickens, geese, turkeys, rabbits, etc. are sold.

Carrie and Ken will run a dip-netting station to look for critters in the marsh along Cemetery Road 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Lynda will be in Shreve Elementary 8 a.m.-4 p.m. with a hands-on look at marsh birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians. The OCVNers will host family-friendly crafts, games, and activities 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Rebecca will bring select books and items from the TWC Nature Store. Learn Bird Calls at The Wilderness Center

When: 1 p.m.

Learn to identify, by sound, the birds that are calling in the spring. We will start inside with a 45 minute introduction to the birds and their calls. Participants will receive ODNR Division of Wildlife bird booklet and CD in order to practice learning the calls at home. You can stop there or venture outside to learn more! We will spend about 30 minutes outside and hopefully hear lots of birds to reinforce what we have learned.
