Settled back among the rolling hills and scenic trees of Holmes County, Uncle Tom's Cabins may be a little hard to find but it's welcoming rustic and modernized cabins are worth the wait.

Having opened back in June 2009, the business is running with three cabins to choose from.

Started by Tom and Sarah Miller, the couple built the first cabin for their families who came to visit. After a while, they started renting out to tourists over the weekends.

Among the amenities, the cabins offer a jacuzzi and spacious bedrooms. Tourists have the freedom to walk along pathways and visit the nearby pond which will eventually be used for fishing.

The couple plans to build on and expand the business.

"We've received a lot of comments from tourists about how secluded it is," Tom said.

"Quite a few people have come back already," Sarah added.

The cabins currently available are all new units, as the business itself is just over a year and a half old.

"There are always areas you can tweak," Tom said in regard to improvements he'd like to make in the future. "Aside from the expansion, we're currently thinking about offering some package deals for stays."

According to Tom Miller, there are quite a few cabins in the area for tourists to rent during their visit to Holmes County. However, as of now Tom hasn't had a problem with the competition.

"Everyone is different," Tom said. "We all have something to offer to the tourists. We're located close to Berlin and Walnut Creek, almost in the center of where people want to be."

Among the business aspect of Uncle Tom's Cabins, Tom and Sarah both agree that the most enjoyable part of the experience is the people they meet.

"There are some people that just come for a getaway from the city," Tom said. "We enjoy meeting a lot of new people and providing activities for the kids to get them involved," Sarah added.

Uncle Tom's Cabins is located at 3515 CR 168 past Berlin, off of SR 62. The cabins are available to rent throughout the year.

As a "mom and pop shop," Uncle Tom's Cabins offers winter and weekly rates for those interested in paying a visit. If you are interested in renting a cabin or for additional information call Tom or Sarah Miller at 330-763-3748.
