Tatiana and Jeff Wilkins, owners of Premier Carriage House Cottages have run the business for the past four years.

The couple decided to join a partnership with Donna, a close friend of theirs, from Donna's Premier Lodging.

"When we came here there was no landscaping, no office, and no pool," Tatiana said. "We started by renovating all of the cottages; cleaning them from top to bottom, redecorating them inside and out. The next year we added the office, our third year we added the pool and last year we added the seventh cottage."

Tatiana explained that this year they decided to take a break; however, soon the couple plans on two more additions " cottage eight and cottage nine.

"There were only six when we came, we built cabin seven (Waterford Cottage) with a more modern feel. That's also what we're planning for the next two," Tatiana said.

Tatiana decorated each cottage herself; however, the couple put a little more sentiment into the first, Ellis Cottage. As a namesake for Jeff's grandmother, Tatiana filled the cottage with various heirlooms that Ellis had left them.

As most merchants acknowledge October to be the busiest season for Berlin and Millersburg, Tatiana maintains a full booking for most of the year.

"We'll start getting busy from now to the rest of the year," Tatiana said. "We're just as busy in June, July, August, and September as we are in October. We'll open our heated pool and eight-person spa on Memorial Day weekend and that always brings the tourists in."

Apart from the personal dcor and countryside luxury that Premier Carriage House Cottages offers, Tatiana claims the business' biggest success to be the staff's attention to detail.

"We cater to the specific needs of each of our guests," Tatiana said. "Having seven separate cottages rather than a hotel gives us the advantage to do that. Our specific details is why we get a lot of repeat guests."

Through bursts of laughter, Tatiana remarks that she's not going to divulge all of her secrets. However, her stories and memories with previous guests is undoubtedly a motivation for every tourist to experience their getaway at Premier Carriage House Cottages.

"We try to do everything we can to make their getaway perfect," Tatiana said. "When someone books one of our cottages we ask little questions so we can get a feel for their personality and the types of things they like. Then when they arrive they find a little extra something waiting for them in their cottage, something that is specific to them and the purpose for their trip."

Tatiana loves to share in special moments with her guests.

"We have a lot of marriage proposals here. One gentleman was planning to propose to his girlfriend during breakfast, so we called to a local bakery and had cupcakes made and decorated specifically for the couple. He placed the ring on top of one of the cupcakes and served it to her for breakfast.

We also light candles and lay out rose petals...just little things that make their trip that more special."

If there was one thing Tatiana thinks Premier Carriage House Cottages could improve on, it would be bringing in the traffic from the main road.

"Not being on the main road has some obvious disadvantages," Tatiana said. "However, our guests really do enjoy the countryside atmosphere. They also aren't disturbed by the noise from the main road. We do have signs situated that direct travelers to our cottages. It's a positive and a negative, but I think we do alright."

A priority for any business is to build their relationships with the community.

"We have a great relationship with the other B&Bs in the area. It's like a little network," Tatiana said. "If we're booked then we refer them to one of the others who has an availability. And vice versa. Even some of the hotels let us know if and when they have openings so we can send travelers in their direction."

Premier Carriage House Cottages is located at 6291 CR 203 between Millersburg and Berlin. Winter specials are in effect from now through April. For more information or to make a reservation call 330-893-1700 or visit www.berlincabins.com.
