Dinner Rolls

Published:

Ingredients:

*2 tblsp. Sugar

*2 tblsp. shortening, melted and cooled

*1 1/2 tsp. Salt

*2 1/4 tsp. active dry yeast

*1 c. lukewarm water

*3 1/4 c. flour

Directions:

1.Add the sugar, shortening, salt and yeast to the lukewarm water and let sit until bubbly, about 10 minutes. Add 1 cup of the flour and beat until smooth. Then by hand, mix in the remaining flour. Place the dough on a floured board and let it rest for about 5 minutes.

2.Knead the dough, adding small amounts of flour as needed, until smooth and elastic. Round into a ball and place the dough in a greased bowl, turning to grease all surfaces. Cover it and allow the dough to rise for 1 hour.

3.Pat out dough into a rectangle and roll up jelly roll style. (You can spread some softened butter on the dough before rolling it up if you want butter rolls.) Cut the log into 1-inch slices and place the rolls, cut side up, on a greased baking sheet.

4.Bake at 450ºF for 12-15 minutes.
