*1 lb. hamburger
*1 large onion, chopped
*1 cup celery, chopped
*1 large potato, peeled and sliced (at least 1 cup)
*1 cup carrots, peeled and sliced
*Salt and pepper to taste
*1 cup tomato sauce
*2 1/2 quarts water
*1/4 cup cornmeal
*1/4 cup water
1.Brown meat and onion and drain off fat. In a Dutch oven or heavy soup pot, add the meat and onion mixture, celery, potatoes, carrots, salt and pepper, tomato sauce, and 2 1/2 quarts water. Simmer, covered, until vegetables are tender.
2.Make a thin paste of the cornmeal and 1/4 cup water. Add to the soup, stirring as you do so it doesn't lump up. Continue stirring until slightly thickened, about 2 minutes.
