Brown Sugar Drops

Ingredients:

*1 cup shortening

*2 cups brown sugar

*2 eggs

*1/2 cup buttermilk

*3 1/2 cup flour

*1 tsp. soda

*1 tsp. salt

*Walnut or pecan

halves or slivered

almonds

Directions:

1. Cream together shortening, sugar and eggs; mix thoroughly. Stir in buttermilk. Combine flour, soda and salt, mixing well, and add dry mixture into creamed mixture.

2. Chill dough 1/2 hour.

3. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls about 2" apart on a lightly greased baking sheet. If desired place nuts on top of each cookie, unless you wish to frost them later.

4. Bake at 400°F for 8-10 minutes or until almost no imprint remains when touched. Yields: 6 dozen.
