With a brand new showroom ready for an influx of spring customers, Country View Wicker is prepared to show off the best of its merchandise.

Co-owner Verna Yoder said she can't wait for more people to see the reorganized store that sits across the road from a scenic valley.

"So far everyone really likes it so I'm excited," she said. "This way people are more able to see what we do have," Verna Yoder said.

The showroom adds to store, which Yoder said customers have lauded for its warm atmosphere.

"I think it's just because wicker's pretty. It makes it feel nice and especially after a drab winter. It makes you feel good."

Country View Wicker sells both indoor and outdoor furniture. Some is seasonal and meant for decks, porches or sun rooms, but Verna Yoder has noticed that many people will purchase the outdoor furniture that can stand the weight and moisture of snow to use outside during the warm months and bring it in when it's cold.

"As a whole, I have people use the outdoor stuff in the indoors quite often. A lot of people like it year-round," she said.

Yoder has been running the store with her sister Esta for 12 years and has gotten help from her niece Ruby for two years. Verna Yoder and her sister conveniently live next door to the business that they started with a small, $3,000 inventory they purchased from good friends who had begun the retail business and sold directly from their garage.

It took about five years to get the business going and now that the store has grown considerably, customers will find all kinds of items made of wicker and rattan.

Country View Wicker carries bassinets, outdoor furniture, beds, dressers, divans, ottomans, love seats, tables, porch swings and much more. Many of the products come in a variety of finishes and an assortment of fabrics available for upholstering cushions.

Verna Yoder said people who want to update the look of their wicker don't need to search for modern patterns anywhere else. In addition to the traditional floral and stripe prints, Yoder accommodates the trends of bold colors and simple, geometric patterns with an expansive selection in the non-fade brand Sunbrella.

"Quality is a really high standard and people don't have a problem finding that here," Yoder said.

Those unfamiliar with wicker furniture should know a few of the basics: wicker is the spindly, detailed woven woodwork and rattan refers to the broader pieces of wood. Some of the furniture in the store is exclusively made from rattan or wicker, but many incorporate both.

To care for indoor wicker furniture, Verna Yoder suggests wetting the pieces once a year, but not spraying them down too harshly or too often.

"It puts the strength back into it. They say it's like a basket," Verna Yoder said.

Country View Wicker also sells P. Graham Dunn pictures and offers cushion repair and recovering services. By the end of April, the store will be receiving two new lines, Tide Water and Augusta.
