"This business is something that my wife and I enjoy," Chupp said.

"We don't have the need to hire anyone else because we don't get as much traffic as some of the other areas. Therefore it's something that we get to do together."

As fall rapidly approaches, Amish country welcomes a boost in its visitors. With the changing of the leaves, tourists find even more reasons to appreciate the surrounding areas and all they have to offer.

"With the economy down people normally start with the dining tables and chairs and then move onto the larger pieces."

Jake's specializes in solid hardwood oak, cherry and maple furniture and some hickory, which is becoming more and more popular.

"We like to put more attention into our finishes," Chupp said as he pulled out a chair to prove it.

Matching designs to their right type of finish is a job for Chupp's wife.

"My wife has a better eye for which finish will look best with a particular design."

All of the furniture that is produced for Jake's Handcrafted Oak is done by local retailers.

"The Amish furniture shops that manufacture our funiture don't mass produce it," Chupp said.

"We believe quality is more important that quantity."
